The Vampire and the Masquerade (paragraphs 16-19 of 19)

“Yes” The women replied, “I love to dance. The townsfolk come and volunteer their blood to keep me from hunting so I can stay here and dance for eternity.”
“Eternity” Wrath repeated, falling deep into thought.
Eternity here seemed lonely to him. Forever surrounded by voiceless and faceless dolls however pretty they might be. They could not love or cherish you and without you they couldn’t function at all. So you’d just be dancing forever alone to the same wordless tunes.

“Don’t you ever get bored?” Wrath asked, “Don’t you ever want to get out?”
“I used to” the woman replied, her eyes gazing at the stars, “but the world I found outside was cruel and harsh to our kind. Here I am safe.”
“It’s true they don’t accept us” he said, thinking of all the times men had come for his life, “But you won’t be safe forever here. Sooner or later the townsfolk will think they have a plan to get rid of you and they’ll come.”

The woman was silent and stared up at the stars. She must’ve known the truth in his words and most likely had all along. But surely she wasn’t just going to dance until they came for her head. Not when she could leave.
“What else would I do?” she asked Wrath, “There is no one out there to take me in. Our kind are so few and far between, we each have our own lives to worry about.”
“So you’ll just stay here until you die?” he asked, watching her face for a reaction.
She remained expressionless, staring at the stars, “Perhaps”

“You’re crazy” Wrath said, his fangs itching to grab another glass of blood.
The woman laughed, “Perhaps that is true too.”
The two of them sat there in silence under the night sky. Beneath them the soulless dolls continued their endless dance to the unending music. Above them the eternal stars twinkled unemotionally in the darkness. And the two of them sat motionless, two immortal beings kept in this world by the blood of others. One wore a mask and one didn’t.

The Vampire and The Masquerade is a short story submitted in paragraphs. It is meant as a concept piece more valued for the ideas it presents than the plot.

IT IS HIGHLY SUGGESTED THAT THIS BE READ FROM THE BEGINNING!!!
First: Link
Previous: Link
Next: Link

I apologize for the abrupt ending. In my mind the story continues, but due to a lack of interest by others this will be the end of it. I hope you enjoyed ^_^

~Edit: The story will be continued by un-popular demand :P A link will come up here when the next part is done.

I liked it but i didn't want to comment until the finish because I wouldn't understand it otherwise, now I don't understand it completely and will never have an ending other than this cliffhanger.

Very beautiful!

And you should continue it, just for the sake of writing!

you do love writing, don't you...?

It may not look like it, but I am keeping up with your "The Vampire and the Masquerade" series, and I must say; I'm impressed with your style and overall depth of your creative writing. ^^

This it really good, but it reads more like a prolog, then an actual story. Hope that there is more of this to follow. An interesting view of different points of view on being a vampire.
