How to make an ORIGINAL CHARACTER

By Fieryone

NOTE: I refer back to my character Fieryone, a lot, so bare with me.

Section 1: The Difference between a Fan-Character and an Original Character.

--------------------------------------------------------

Fan Characters: These are characters made for an already existing universe, THIS IS ALL SONIC CHARACTERS. This could also be something such as Star Wars, Halo, or Evangelion.

Note: Those are all Examples.

Original Characters: These would be Characters like, Fieryone, from my current story currently headed under the name EU. What makes an original character is his Surrounding and environment. Such as Fireyone's being a post-military grunge setting, in which the Russians have pretty much taken control over the whole god damn planet, but more on this later.

---------------------------------------------------------
Section 2: Creating your Character (Imagination Required)
---------------------------------------------------------

So, you want to make an original character to choose from? Well, the only materials you need are your own head, Optional stuff would be Pencil and Paper, or a Computer with some form of Writing software. Now, your probably thinking, "So Fireyone, how the do I make an original Character?" My answer, "What kind of character do you want?"

You see there is this thing called GENRE, this would include Action, Sci-fi, and fantasy. Those being the one's I pulled off the top of my head. Within these Genre you can do anything to the setting, want a Steam-punk with Magic? Go right ahead! Want Star ships Piloted by Unicorns? GO AHEAD! Want your Action hero to be able to take down planes with his bare hands? GO AHEAD! The setting is an integral part of making a character, your character.

-------------------------------------------------------
Section 2: Character Design
-------------------------------------------------------

Sure everyone wants there character to be a badass, but we can't all have are characters running around shooting fire from there mouths while in a trench coat, with an obscenely large sword that the laws of gravity say you can't pick up. So, this is where having a setting comes into play. If you have a setting you can generally come up with a character design, that not only are yo happy with, but also fits the setting.

(Note: They also, don't have to be human, they could be a blob of sentient jelly for all I care, it's your character you do what you want with it.)

An example, seeing as how Russia has nuked the planet in certain areas, these places have nuclear radiation, and winter. So, to combat the cold he normally wears a thick Russian Trench coat he pulled off the body of some poor sap. While that partly goes against what I said before, it's goes along with the setting, so the point is moot.

Not only that, while having accessories and "bling" to go on your character, it's not always wise to have them have a large amount, a simple looking character can not only be prettier, but easier on the eyes.

---------------------------------------------------------
Section 3: Guns, swords, MAGIC, and ABILITES!
---------------------------------------------------------

Pretty much, the section name sums it up, you can makes your character fight with whatever they want, yes anything they want, hell, your character could prefer not to fight in favor of talking things out. They can also use Dark Magics from the netherworld, or whatever sciences has given them.

--------------------------------------------------------
Section 4: Backstory, it REALLY helps
--------------------------------------------------------

We all know the stereotypical "When Bobby was a little boy, his parents were murdered, so he went on a quest to train how to kill the guys, who killed his parents... FOR GREAT JUSTICE". While I'm not saying your character can't have that, it would be more beneficial for something a little more original.

Example: Fieryone, case in-point, was the product of the Genetic research through a Russian military Programmed designed to allow the control of Various elements, in Fireyone's case fire, He himself was created through the good ole' natural means of reproduction from his parents. Who subsequently escaped in a mass breakout from the holding Facility. He was born hidden in a cave somewhere in the Russian-controlled USA, and for his most of his life was spent running from Russian Hunter-Killer Robots. Unfortunately Fieryone's parents were gunned down by those machines, and he was left alive covered by the dead body of his own mother. After that, he continued his time honored Tradition of running, even more.

Yes, your probably calling me a Hypocrite, but Fireyone never went learning how to fight, call is a Spiced up variation. Oh, and by the by, this was an extremely Abridged version of the backstory.

------------------------------------------------------
Section 5: MISC
------------------------------------------------------

Pretty much, this is the end of the line till I come up with more to add, or are given suggestions. Like I said, throughout this entire journal. It's your character, YOU can do whatever you want with it. Who ever tells you differently is an asshat.

Just remember, Sonic Recolors, ARE NOT ORIGINAL CHARACTERS.

Thanks for your time!

Nicely done.

I have enough experience with making characters, so this wasn't any use for that. However, it was usefull for same nice CRACKING UP LMAO time cuz of the lulz jokes you put in

Apathetic Hate Says:

I don't agree with the powers section.

Ideally a character will be developed as result of the plot, not suddenly have these powers that do shit.

Powers need to be thought out and given limits, otherwise you have people who simply godmode their way through everything, until the author decides to have someone who has a bigger penis higher power level.
