This is one of my favorite pictures thus far. I did this while I had the day off from babysitting. I had always wanted to try the Renaissance art. Sadly, I know nothing about painting, but that didn't stop me from drawing it. So this is the product of finally doing and not just staring. I hope y'all enjoy this pic as much as I do (and go check the original!!)

Warning! There is slight nudity, and slight violence (despite the lack of blood).

St. Michael (at least this version) belongs to Raphael
The demon belongs to Michaelangelo...I think...

PWNED! St. Michael looks awesome!

Minstrel Ayreon Says:

Looks very good! Great to see this kind of classical/Renaissance artwork! That's not a common style around here, so I'm very glad for it.

Just a few critiques...

First, would it be possible to get a darker scan? You seem to have a lot of good detail going on here--so show it off!

Second...I can tell you were uncomfortable with drawing the private parts that I suspect were on the original of the demon. Had I been drawing that, I think I might've used a fig leaf or something similar, to allow the drawing to still seem "complete" in that area, as well as maintaining a period feel (fig leaves and the like were added to Renaissance drawings at the order of the Church in some cases due to perceived excesses of the Renaissance). Wherever you stand on the issue of censorship as it occurred at that time, I do think that the fig leaf would've been a useful tool to avoid simply having an incomplete area where the genitalia should be.

(For examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fig_leaf )

Like I said, though...overall I think you did very well, especially with St. Michael.

Which one was he?

This is really impressive!

PWN him, Michael!

steppy Says:

thats a really good adaptation from a painting into a drawing

purple cartoon Says:

You did a very good job on the details like the wings and the cloth ribbon (or whatever that is). It's a very impressive drawing; I don't think many people could do something like this; a drawing from a painting that doesn't look like a sketch, but a complete piece. Good job. ^^

it is refreshing to see the Renaissance style!
