So I have found pleasure in my characters, you know? Having these little beings you can manipulate and make into whatever you want them to be. And let's face it: Mr. Made-of-Smoke-Man here needs some more personality to him!
If I were made out of smoke, I would so totally puff it out like I had a cigarette.
(maybe he looks a little too Emo, goth, "I'm a bad-a, please someone believe me"....but we're getting there).
And lastly the secret hand! Simple truth: Zac fails at hands. Carry along now people...

I don't think you have a problem with his look (as you say) In fact the eyes are quite appropriate, giving off a "I think everything is stupid." kinda look. Although, when I looked at it, it wasn't obvious to me that he was made of smoke, I guess simply fire. and the darken effect is maybe a tad too heavy...but no biggie there.
otherwise, very cool! Lots of odd and diffrent character feels in your art :)
