Please read this for info about the base sprite

This sprite is an edit. The base is Princess Ovelia from Final Fantasy Tactics. I did not make the base.

Red triangle patterns on dress: comes directly from White Mage sprite
Flower patterns: scratch
Hair: scratch

I've decided to go ahead with the forum RPG, Heroes of Ivalice. After all this time, and a lot of studying, I came up with a couple of different ways to sprite my character in the FFT style. Let me tell you, it's hard. x_x I did not hae an easy time with her. My character is a pink-haired white mage, and I want her to wear something pretty. I'm a little worried that her clothes may be TOO pretty, though, so I need some help.

In the top left corner, you'll see the most basic designs I will accept. It's basically Ovelia's dress with White Mage markings. I took off Ovelia's cape and recolored the white dress into a few different shades, then recolored the ones with patterns a little... Finally, I just made some flower patterns and decided I needed some extra opinions.

Personality-wise...she's like my quiet, serious side. Can anyone make some suggestions about her clothing, or ways I can make these sprites look better? This is my first time spriting in FFT style, so I'm not overly confident about it. Help is appreciated.

Rosencruez Says:

Well if your character is quiet and serious, I don't think it'll be likely that she'll wear anything overly pretty. Don't get me wrong, you did a great job on the editing. The thing is you need to put some thought into the clothes they wear, as they usually reflect their personalities.

the all pink one looks good

Star Chronicles Says:

I like the right hand bottom on the most, Don't know why but those little pink circles make her stand out and really matches well with the white. As per any help with the dress design, i'm not sure but you could try giving her no sleeves and see if that fits, if it doesn't you can put some pink circles on the bell (or cuff) of the sleeve to make it match the lower portion of the dress. Hope that helps ^^

I really like the very last one. (Last row, right one). I think they look great, and what Star Chronicles said sounds good to me.
Also, I really don't see how Rosencruez can think that. I know a few anime characters who are quiet and serious, and yet beautiful. Aren't most queens/princesses like that in some series? I don't know. It could just be me.

I like the bottom ones best. The color scheme on the first one is the better of the two, but the top portion seems a bit bland without the little scarf looking thingy. I'd make a combo of the two. Possibly a better color for the scarf than yellow too (yellow is an icky color >_<

Additionally, maybe play around with a braid. The current hair is nice and works great, but for some reason she strikes me as having a long braided ponytail hanging over one shoulder. Not sure why, but...

SailorPoipoi Says:

The flower designed dresses have the best look. Plus more orginal feel.

Wedge McCloud Says:

(Meant to post before. Sorry.) I think the flower pattern is pretty good as well. It's original, it tells about the characters, and it has the best looking sprite, as well. I agree the scarf (and ends of the sleeves, it looks like) could use a different color. A pale green like the flower stems on the dress could match well and provide some contrast.

Overall, though... This is amazing. You emulate different styles really well. You did that card style with the Phoenix Wright sprites, and now you've done FF Tactics perfectly. I think the outfit is good, too. I suppose your character is a mage? Well, I just gotta say, that hair is amazing. I've never seen better pixelwork.
