Freespace Waking Dreams

Cheesy title.

My final for Experimental Illustration. We had to do this ridiculous digital-print-et-cetera mixed media thing. Big. So...Since it's something I'm really gonna have to live with, I thought I would do a picture of Arrio. Personal work, ya know.

So...This started as four separate drawings in pencil, each being letter-sized. I scanned those and assembled them, digitally, into one image. Then, I took another few hours to digitally paint that. Then, a kindly Swede printed that out onto canvas for me, at 40 x 30 inches in size. I got a bunch of cloth, and started sewing. Arrio's pink shirt, and all the banners in the background are made of cloth. I added a button on his shirt, too. I added electrical wires in leather cord, and made trash on the ground with duct tape and various pieces of paper. The dead bird is made of feathers. I stuck metal brads all through the concrete floor to give it rivets, and the metal parts of the bench are made of duct tape. The yellow parts on the jacket are made of yellow duct tape. Then, I painted the whole thing in acrylic to the point you see now. I might go back in and do some more work on this, in the future (I have this idea that electric lights might be nice.) but for the moment, it's finished.

...The critique was weird. I got drilled on "What's your concept?" and I'm like, "Oh, geez. How do I even begin to explain Arrio? o_O;;"
