History:
Lyris was born the daughter of a minor lord. She and her twin, Emaris, were born on the first day of spring and the new year, and were therefore considered very lucky. A seer prophesied that Lyris (named for Lyris the Ascent, the first woman warrior who was said to have saved all of Aladris single-handedly, then ascended into heaven without dying) would become the second Ascent and would save her people from an unknown scourge from the West. When Lyris and Emaris were seven years old, Emaris, the gentler and more feminine twin, was sent to learn the ways of gentility. It was during the summer of that year that the younger twins, Kyera and Cyera, were born. Only a week after their birth, the Lord's castle was penetrated by an unfamiliar and very militant group from the West. Lyris witnessed her parents' slayings, but escaped from the castle with her two sisters, and managed to find Emaris. The children were adopted by a son of the King, and Lyris was trained from the age of ten in swordsmanship, archery, and horsemanship. All of the sisters were given the tools to defend themselves, but since Lyris was to be the second Ascent, her adopted parents placed a considerable amount of stress on her in expectation of her role in the land's history.
Lyris never forgot the image of her parents dying before her. She carried the memory and the pain with her for the rest of her life.
When Lyris and Emaris were nineteen and the younger twins were twelve, the sisters left their adopted parents to strike out on their own. Their adopted parents gave them horses and weapons, as well as supplies for their journey. The horse Lyris was given, a steel-grey charger stallion she named Dezyre, became very attatched to his master and even saved her life on several occasions. The sisters left their home in the coastal city of Delline for the royal city of Daria, where the King resided. They hoped to be welcomed, but when they arrived they learned that the King had heard of their coming and knew of the prophecies surrounding Lyris, and set traps and perils for the sisters along the journey. He was extremely corrupt, keeping a harem of thousands of women from various lands and taxing the people mercilessly.
Along the journey, the sisters met a company of elves. Among them was Kois, chief of the guard and son of the company's captain. At first, Lyris didn't like him; to her, he seemed over-confident and brash; to him, she was the one sent to him by God. Eventually, Lyris came to enjoy his company, and they became close friends and sparring-partners.
I WILL FINISH THIS LATER...

How sad. Really. It makes Peter's history sound like a picnic in some park. Both are thoroughly depressing though. I must admit, I do like this
