Treading Through Water

Rain sheet down without mercy
It will never cease
I held out my hand and waited
Waited for you to escape with me
To a place where no one knows
To a place where we can finally be free

The water begins to rise
Shifting around my ankles
We ran as far as we could
But the rain had consumed our hidden place
And so we ventured on, searching
For a place where we can finally be free

The numb chilling embrace
As the downpour waded up to my waist
We hid under the willow tree
As rained cried from its emerald leaves
And so we waited for a place
For a place where we can find be free

The rain never halted that day
It rose higher, stealing our breath
I held you above my head
So at least you could live
And so I struggled for you
For a place where you could be free

Sacrificing yourself to let someone you care for most to live. Really sad...yet heartwarming...I think.
