Yesterday on March 1st, I woke up with my bunny, Sabrina, sick in her cage. She wouldn’t eat, drink, nothing. All she did was lie in her cage, shifting her body now and then. I know I’ve seen this before, all the usual conditions of when she has a tummy ache.

Then when I was researching online I read some other conditions and saw she was getting worse. Shivering in her cage, lose of balance; I was getting too worried.

My dad was out, so I ran to my mom holding her in my arms. Of course, she didn’t know what to do and convinced that we had no money to take her to the vet for a check-up. I called my friend up all concerned, but she said all the vets were closed till Monday. Being nice, she said on Monday morning if she still weren’t better, she’d take me to the vet and pay for the check-up.

Right after I called my dad at work asking what to do. He was busy with a customer so I had to wait longer than I expected. I brought Sabrina into my room on my bed, holding her close. I wrapped her up in two layers of blankets, thinking it’d stop the shaking. I gave her water in a cup frequently, hoping it’d help her feel better. When my dad called back he said to just watch after her and keep her warm.

The whole day I dedicated and took my time to make her healthy again. I put her back in her cage hoping she’d use her litter box, but nothing. All day for 10 hours I watched her, bringing her in my room and back in her cage once in a while.

Then finally, after 10 hours of pain, my bunny jumped off the bed and onto my floor. She was actually licking herself, moving around. I immediately brought her downstairs thinking she’d have to go, but then she licked my finger. She was playful again. I offered her a carrot and before I knew it she was eating like crazy. She was finally feeling better.

I was so thrilled; she was back to her old self. I was never so scared in my life, and never cried so much either. It made me realize how much love can cure for someone you love. I’m sure if I didn’t offer her the water in a cup, she’d never have gotten better until way later.

I’m hoping for my Birthday on March 31st, I can get a professional photographer take a picture of Sabrina and I. It’s something I wanted for so long (and something my parents
‘promised’ me last year...)

So anyways, I drew this the night she felt better. I can’t imagine a world without her, and I’m sure she feels the same.

I hope to color this someday and make it beautiful, but for now it’s just a sketch. I know the flaws and I don’t care. It’s the thought behind this that counts. She really is my little baby.

love how you've drawn the bunny ^^ I've read your little story, it reminds me of the sickness my dog got a few weeks ago. Luckily we were able to bring her to the vet and get the proper diet and medication to cure her tummy.

Doesn't do you much good now...but what it might have been was a hairball. My rabbit has had one before, their pretty easy to get rid off. If you get him to drink so pineapple juice that can help. The enzymes in the pineapple help break it up. Mind you...they don't appreciate it very much because as you stated she didn't want to eat or drink. Unfortunately that usually means force feeding them. ^-^; If you have a syringe lying about use that and just squirt a little bit into her mouth at a time. Of course comforting her is the best possible thing, you don't want to stress her out.
