Description

Assignment from my Advanced Painting class to do a painting utilizing space after the fashion of PreRenaissance art. I derived my subject matter from early-20th-century American pulp literature.

So, cadets, today we join our hero, the intrepid and feckless space frontier scout Rocko Pollocks (Space Case) where he's crash-landed onto a mysterious alien world. He's made contact with the natives: a race of noble savage space-elfs who strive to live in perfect pacifistic harmony with the world around them. Unfortunately, the planet's native dinosaurs don't share their idealism, and keep eating them. With such a shortage of men left, the space-elf women have become very, very lonely...

*Cough*This is the painting that inspired certain recent journal posts of artistic woefulness. They ripped me apart in the critique like vultures because of the lack of deep artistic concept.*Cough*

I don't see what they had to critique, to be frank. Lack of concept, my ass.

Oh Rocko! I missed you! I think this is a fun, b-movie-poster-esque piece, and that elf's thighs are so SHINY.

JohnGames Says:

I love that dinosaur

SailorPoipoi Says:

fine critique my ass , I love the colors in this. Very rich.

I remember I had to draw a guy sitting in a chair. Challenge was not to lift the pencil too many times. Sadly I forgot to add the chair the first day and so he never matched up with the chair... The class critiqued my work and all I got was " Its... abstract o.0 ? "

Backwards Twin 2 Says:

Don't listen to idiots.

They can't see down their noses, they are too far stuck up in the air

I love this, it's wonderful, your use of color and depth reminds me of the whole "IT CAME FROM THE BLACK LAGOON" posters, and Classical comic booking from Jack Kirby himself. I love it, it's wonderful, and if I had the money, I would pay you a fair price to buy it

Sana Says:

you....you're EPIC.

junobean Says:

Lack of concept?! What pole of stupid got shoved up their ass? I loves it!

Yammo Says:

This reminds me of pulp sci-fi covers

porcelaintears Says:
