Time Corp Race: Nyes

Now we come to a Nye, pronounced, well, "Ny". Originally native to the planet Kethlo, they are among some of the fiercest warrior races in the universe.

Nyes evolved in an incredibly high gravitational field as hunters and predators, originally forming loose family-tribes that roamed and fought amongst each other in long clan battles that often became millenia-spanning feuds.

Eventually, however, Nyes discovered technology, and what can only be described as an explosion swept over the race. Within less than a thousand years, these intense, war-loving creatures went from the use of fire to high-tech electronic use.

As part of this explosion, they underwent a social shift as well, changing from wandering savages to noble barbarians, in a society that resembled an almost high-tech feudal Japan. Over the next few thousand years, Nye cities began to expand and grow as the population soared, and eventually the entire surface of Kethlo was one huge city, with thousands of subsections as well as levels extending miles beneath the ground.

It was during this time, with a population explosion underway and overcrowding at its' highest that they finally developed spaceflight, and discovered there was another habitable world in their star system. Debates raged throughout their race, and finally the world was divided into two rival factions determined to leave and colonize Hurgee, as the world was called.

The question of which side was settled in typical Nye fashion: They had a war.

The winners built huge colony ships and migrated to Hurgee, while the losers were left behind to rebuild.

When more planets were discovered in nearby systems that could be colonized, the Nyes saw no reason to change their system of working it out.

Nearly ten thousand years later the Nyes were the dominant race on four planets and countless satellites in three systems. Then they were discovered by the M'krann.

Although the Nyes originally welcomed the skirmishes with the M'krann, they soon realized that they were no match for the huge swarms of these xenophobic aliens. They fortified their worlds in a last-ditch attempt to defend themselves.

Kethlo fell within a decade, followed by Hurgee and Felorn soon after.

The ruler of Z'nax, the last Nye world, built three gigantic motherships in a last, desperate bid for survival. As the M'krann overfleet closed in and destroyed Z'nax, the last of the Nye race ran for the first time in their history.

When they stopped running, on the far side of the galaxy, they ran across the Time Corp, and decided to take their offer of sanctuary.

Nyes are mammals which resemble living teddy bears with incredibly dense bodies due to their origins in a high-gravity field. Their strength and speed is incredible when they are on Earth-normal planets. The average adult Nye can press about 6 tons, and can use their fangs to bite through solid six-inch steel. They are nearly bulletproof under most circumstances, and heal rapidly. They also have incredibly tough metabolisms, and drink intoxicating beverages that can kill most humans with a single drink. They find human liqours tasty, but unappealling.

Nyes give live birth to anywhere from one to four children at a time. As soon as a child is weaned from its' mother, usually within four weeks, they are handed over to a fostrin for life training. Fostrins are clan, or dest, houses, where young Nyes are taught honor, law, a trade, and most importantly several forms of combat including at least one major martial art. When a Nye is confirmed as an adult they become an equal among all Nyes. The loyalty to one's dest is so strong, many Nyes will choose their clan over their own blood relations in any conflict.

Nyes are monogamous, and although they may take several partners in their lives, they will only truly settle down and marry once, and are absolutely faithful from then on.

Nyes in the Time Corp are almost always soldiers or combat pilots. They also make adequate doctors.

Although my Time Corp universe was originally intended to be a serious platform for my science fiction writing, at one point it was used for a roleplaying campaign for a few years as well. Since some of the players didn't know the ins and outs of the races, I wrote short summaries to cover the basics for them.

I'm posting them here just...well, because I feel like it. These are original races, created and owned by me, but if I'm properly credited I may be open to them being used by others.
