Using other people's artwork = editted sprites?

They claim that it's fun and "just a hobby" and that justifies everything. They continually just copy and paste the same art, which is directly taken from the original art from the sonic/megaman/mario games.

I really hate that they can merely TAKE art from SEGA, change it around a bit, and put it up here. They refuse to make anything new, just sticking to changing what's been made. They claim that they're free to do whatever they want. It's almost like the attitude smokers have, "I can quit whenever I want!". The thing is, they don't quit, ever.

I know what you meant.
It was clear to me, man.
Talk about blowing something out of proportion.

nods :/

Nilrem Says:

That was pretty much everything I wanted to say concerning that, thank you.

I'd rather have zero watchers, few page views, yet a lot of wonderful artwork rather than being very popular, with over one billion page-views, yet without my own creativity. Tis my opinion, 'course...

It's hard for me to get up and think of something new and creative everyday, so I think if I take one of them 100 themes challenge and little by little, work on creating my own way of writing that not a lot of people can copy. I wish I could draw or use my voice, but I seem to not have those talents available to me, so I go to the next best thing; I use my writing and turn it into something that people don't go, "Oh, I'll just skip it. It's nothing personal or anything." or, "Oh, I'll just read the first line and then comment on that." I guess, in some ways, it's easier to create something not "Fanart-ish" with writing than it is drawing, unless if you really edge for it. I might not know what most of my reasoning comes from saying this, but I just believe that... well, you can't call it a true adventure if you've tried it already, you know what I mean?

Favoriting this.

But wait, you drew Saru fanart this week D=

Okay, I admit I failed miserably at 'anti-fanart January' when I posted my fanart recently. I just prefer not to post my original stuff online ; Does that count? I assure you I have -loads- of original work piled up elsewhere, and I've been working on it too (*gasp shock* I'm not as lazy as I seem )

Lol, Nice little debate you've put together here, and some funky music in the background. Fanart isn't the evil some people claim it is, but, even as a fanartist, I do see that people who use 'fan' art to gain popularity are far too common. I feel true fanartists, ones who enjoy it like myself, keep getting attacked along with those, so it's a little annoying However, I also support the idea that people should give a shot at doing their own work. I have *counts* three or four original projects on the go, and intend to work on them to completion. I don't allow the sheer amount of fanart I draw (I limit what I post here but my poor DA account is huge lol) to resrict my creativity, I just choose not to show most of it off Might not be the point of this January, but it's safer since I hope to get some of the stuff published one day ;
