First Mate Montegue

Accept this as an apology for not having my life in order.
Montegue was made a good long time ago for a dear and precious friend of mine.

Montegue is my Turkish Van Cat in a roleplaying game I'd begun noveling about for NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month). Though I will not finish my novel by the deadline, I am very much fixed on writing it. As of posting this picture, I only have the first 4 chapters posted. Below is an excerpt from which Montegue, the first mate of a pirate ship called El Adversario is featured.

“Monty will take care of you. Won’t you, gatito?”

As if it understood, the cat fell gracefully once more to the floor and bounded for the table. My Captain pushed past the door and, after a breath’s time, I heard her chamber door close behind her beyond the next room.

The cat circled my hand. It laid one paw, then the next over it and climbed my arm to rest at my shoulders. I smiled at the tiny thing. “So you’re Montegue, then?”, I spoke to it softly, half in jest. I pocketed the dagger my Captain left behind.

Montegue mewed a reply which, now knowing, I should have surely been concerned about.
