To Die For- "All Tied Up And Nowhere To Go"

I waited until I was completely sure that they were both asleep, before thinking about trying to escape. I hadn't had anything to drink for hours and my tongue was getting quite dry. Those pair hadn't come back for me, and I was running my fingers along the cords, wondering where the weak spot was. My fingernails were quite long, but I was sure that I couldn't pick apart the rope. It felt like something that you'd use to tie a ship to a wharf or something like that.

But there was one thing I hadn't counted on. Checkers might be a good fighter, but he was hopeless at tying knots. I smiled when I noticed that he had left a loose thread. I moved one of my free fingers to try to unravel the cord. It took a few minutes, but I managed to move around enough to move a few more of my left hand fingers. It took a bit of wriggling and silent wishing to make sure the old bed didn't creak before I managed to get myself loose. I tore off a few more of the now-loose ropes from around my arms.

The bed creaked. My heart nearly died. I was hoping that Ida was drunk enough and she'd managed to get Checkers smashed as well. After wriggling out of bed, I crept down to the kitchen to get some water. No insane killers were gonna stop me from getting some water. I crept down, got a glass and filled it up, taking large gulps to soothe my dry throat.

Then I could hear it. Those large strides. Those heavy feet totally unused to creeping around the dark on rotten floorboards. It was none other than Checky, come to see why there were noises in an otherwise empty house. One quick look around the kitchen and I knew what I had to do. There would be no further chances. There would be no other chances for me to redeem myself.

"Who's that in my kitchen, then?" Checkers growled, as I stood still trembling. Of course, I wasn't going to answer. Who the fuck has ever answered that question truthfully and lived to tell the tale?

I clutched hard on the glass I was drinking from and smashed it against the sink, turning my glass into a nice sharp weapon. "Oh Checky!" Come here!" I yelled, knowing that would turn him into a raging bull.

"What the fuck are you doing?" He roared at me, possibly wondering why I had no sign of ropes around my arms. Hmm. Strange that. You'd think an assassin would've done a little more than tie someone to a bed. After all, anyone can bounce up and down long enough to break a bed or loosen bonds.

I lunged. I jumped him from the doorway. Sure, I might've been small, but I was also able to hold myself up in the narrow doorway. Checky looked up in surprise. Yeah, there's more than one direction, I thought to myself as I grabbed onto the frame and swung across towards Checkers. Before he had chance to lunge at me, I burst forward and slashed across his throat with the glass. His eyes widened as he realised I was trying to kill him. He started to punch me quite hard on the legs. Even though his calloused fists were used to gloves and bandages, he still managed to make a large bruise until I kicked him hard, wishing that I was wearing steel-toed boots instead of nothing. I leapt up onto the dining table, bouncing away from Checker's famous fists, knocking the back of my elbow at the back of his head with all the force that I could handle. Checkers staggered. He hadn't managed to aim a real punch on me yet on a part that I fought with. I grunted as I tried to bring him down. Blood was starting to stream down his face as he looked up at me. Without hesitating, I kicked him right in the face. He staggered back as he tried to grab onto my ankle. I kicked him back on the hand with a ferocity that shocked me. The shock on his face was priceless.

Silently, I kicked him again, over and over and consequences be damned. It was strange watching Checkers trying to get me. There was blood running down his face, he was begging me to stop and it was at that moment I realised that I was totally on top of my game. I walked out soon as soon as my leg started cramping. If he lived or died was totally, beyond my caring. I silently cheered. Checkers still appeared to be breathing, but I didn't mind. I'd rather have him go after me than Ida. I shivered. The concept of Ida wanting to kill me was one that totally froze me over. Of course, thinking about her must've waked her up. She stumbled on Checkers' sleeping body and glared at me.

"Wha' da fuck is this doin' on the floor? Can't you learn to pick ya toys off the floor?" she slurred at me before realising that it was her toy that was on the floor. "Morty, why is Checkers on the floor? She growled, looking at my blooded hands. I looked up at her with wide eyes, filled with innocence.

"I hit him across the head. You see, some fucker thought it would be SUCH A GOOD IDEA to tie me up to a bed, put a shock collar on me, beat me up, make me run around the house and punch a bag for NO FUCKING GOOD REASON and you're wondering why I hit him on the head?" I yelled at her. If I was still back at Ida's old flat, we'd be waking up the neighbours by now. But there was no one around for miles to listen to the yelling, or potential gunshots.

"Why did ya think that was a good idea? Why aren't' you in bed where ya meant to be?" Ida replied. I rolled my eyes."

"Because I escaped," I said in a flat voice. Seriously, that woman could be really stupid when she wanted to be. Why else would I be here? Were the fairies that lived at the bottom of the garden revolting again and they waved their magic wand and I mysteriously appeared outta nowhere just to annoy her? I could see her eyes beginning to twitch. Her nostrils weren't rolling up so that was a bit of a good sign. I quickly looked her body up and down. She didn't appear to be carrying anything that looked like a weapon, but that didn't mean anything. After all, Checkers didn't have a weapon on him, and neither did I and look at what I managed to achieve. It's amazing what a bit of broken glass, guts and determination can achieve.

"I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!" she squeaked as she put her arms around me. I shivered. If she was gonna kill me now would be the best time. But there was something about her voice that made me think twice. "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU FINALLY DID IT!" she squealed once more, like she was six years old. I was shocked. I don't know why she was happy that I had seriously hurt her lover. Although knowing her, it would just the thing to make her smile her little head off. I would never understand that woman.

"Checky would be so proud of you. Now help me wipe the blood up. I got a tissue and dabbed at the blood, hoping that he didn't have some kind of virus. Who knows what Ida carried around inside her?

"I'll get some ice for his head. He'll be a little cranky when he wakes up, but he won't hate you. I promise!" I thought to myself if Checkers was the kind of guy that I wanted to impress. After all, what would I do next, beat people up for money? If you have to beat people up, isn't it better to go the whole way?

"Sssh. I think he's moving! Ida whispered to me. I nodded, wondering if he would have any idea what happened. His eye popped open and he turned over to his side. For a minute Checkers looked more like a child than a murderer-for-hire. That thought was shattered when he started yelling back.

"WHAT THE FUCK?" He spluttered, trying his hardest to yell. He slumped back after being exhausted from the effort. Ida came back with a bit of ice for Checky's head. He growled at her, which was surprising since it was the first nice thing I'd ever seen her do. I turned away. It was weird seeing Ida treating Checkers, and bandaging him up everywhere. He glanced at me and I couldn't make out the look on his face. I couldn't tell if he was brimming with pride, or if he was about to kill me stone dead.
