Submition for DeviantArt's weekly anthro contest.

Theme: Good morning sunshine

Back-story of the artwork: Before becoming the god of death, young Anpu (another pronunciation of Anubis) is a free spirit whom roams the lands of the great Egypt.

This drawing is a picture of the first time Anpu sees the sunrise, walking all his way from the high Egypt to the Mediterranean sea, in Alexandria (that is the lighthouse of Alexandria, in a very different concept, to the top right.

I was hearing Holst: the planets - Jupiter as inspiration. You should get more of a feel to the picture if you hear it.

took me forever to paint this one. Luckily I managed to find some sea tutorials just in time to finalize the pic.

I do hope to have made the contest in time! It's, was somewhere around 23:50 when it was posted.

*fingers crossed*

Yagura Says:

Beautiful picture, hope you win x3

Cr Says:

Very nice, the lighting is great, although on the tongue it looks just a bit overdone. The waves looks amazing though, and so do the rocks! It must have taken a long time :3

jmercedesd Says:

The scenery looks fantastic, you really caught the lighting well. My only real crit is that Anpu doesn't seem to match the background; his shading is smooth where as the rocks were done almost in a cel-shading style. It makes him look pasted in instead of a part of the picture. In the future, watch out for that sort of thing, it can really make a difference. I think this pic would have been even better if Anpu had been done in cel-shading/higher-contrast shading.
