Whether You Support Palestine or Not, This Conflict Israel

My suggestion would be not to hand over control of the holiest sites in Jerusalem to the Israelis or the Palestinians, but to make the city, and its important religious monuments, into an independent nation similar to the Vatican. In this hypothetical scenario, both Muslims and Hebrews could worship at their respective sites without causing more bloodshed. Personally, I see this violence as unjustifiable and, more importantly for both parties, against their fundamental belief systems. It’s taken me many years to realize this, but if you must justify actions such as murder or terrorism, you’re obviously doing something inherently wrong. Take the most extreme fringes of Islam, for example; these radical fundamentalists believe in a world where there are no innocent bystanders in suicide bomb blasts, only “holy martyrs” for “the cause.” Denying the existence of metaphorical blood on their hands is a clear sign that the work is so gruesome that they must disguise the act by changing the language. Just look up any major dictator or radical group in the twentieth century alone and the evidence quickly begins to mount up; murder is murder, no matter if it’s your first or Final Solution.

Here's another one of my journals for today's political science class; the opening sentence is in reference to the debate as to which side should control the religious sites in Jerusalem.

Smiling Devil Says:

I totally agree with you.

Nanook Says:

This, regrettably, is the root of the whole problem.
The Israelis chose their location of land for Jerusalem, and solely for Jerusalem. To turn it into a Sovereign nation would cause even more uproar and violence.

Leon DarkStar Says:

One of the signs for the end of times is the Jews getting control of it. But I think we should go one step further. Instead of stopping the bloodshed, add up all the bloodshed that ever was and ever will be... then send a fuck-ton of bombs descending onto there heads... maybe making a new lake or something. Can never have enough lakes. [/sarcasm]

The Enchanted Shoe Says:

Catchy title, valid points, but I see no resolution to the conflict, maybe someday, but I doubt it will be a peaceful one. Sadly.
