(It should be a whole pile of bones but I got lazy on the detail.)
At the Dragon*con Art Show alongside many other fab artists, there happened to be a certain Mr Todd Lockwood (and if you're a dragon fan who says 'who'. shame on you

). And thanks to some prodding from Geistdrache (thankies!! :)) I managed to not miss the opportunity to show him my portfolio for a little C&C. He was super nice and gave me some really good crits and suggestions for areas for improvement. One of them was lighting which I totally failed at here. And another rather important one was to work on my figures which is fair play since I draw outta my head and it does rather show. So as of now I plan to start using stock photos/references more and see where that takes me. And since Blackjack's just so much damn fun to draw I picked him for my first effort, using a photo from http://linzstock.deviantart.com/ who is proving a most excellent resource :)
The lighting's a bit rubbish, largely due to a mis-stroke with the black ink which I then had to hide, but had to blacken everything else to make it fit. Next time I should probably scan first, brush ink later but I suppose life's about taking risks
Indian ink, markers, pencil crayon and gel pen.

Wow, this is amazing. You really did a great job! The colors are so easy to look at, and in now way overwhelming (something I love in art!)!

I love how the bits of color usage in this mostly black piece, it really makes the creature stand out. Hah, and gotta love that carnal grin.

Yea, I do think you're right about the lighting, but I personally think it would have been more effective if blackjack was actually having LESS light on him. Since the background looks like a sunset, the sun would most likely be behind him as well, so hence he wouldn't have all those highlights on him. At least, not if you're going for a realistic look.
