Oh my god, I'm finally finished! Ahaha, this took so long and there was so much pain to go through it. ;o;
Alright, the other day after finishing Dante I felt like making another sculepy figurine thingy, so I was thinking of doing some "fanart" for Bleach and either doing Kirin (I think that's her name, the bird brain) or Kon. I was talking to
cloud86 and I asked him whether I should do Kirin or Kon .. which is now obvious.
So I set out to work on Kon with a few goals in mind:
- Make every part of the surface as smooth as possible (main con of Dante)
- Make it as accurate as possible to reference
So I set off to work. I wanted to take some WIP shots and some to show how I work (all the photographs of this process can be found
here.) When I first begin I make a
aluminum skeleton. This is very important because it allows you to save on the amount of clay you use AND you get to set your size/shape before you actually start using the clay. Then you just have to
slap on clay. Now this part I was experimenting with on this project... I decided to
try and use water to see if I could smooth out the surface, and it worked out pretty well in the end. To connect the limbs together, you can either use wires or
toothpicks. Which gets you two
joined limbs!
So that's what I do. After that I got too lazy to take pictures, but if you look through that directory you can see some work in progress steps that I took pictures of to show people on AIM and such.
You know, I almost gave up on this piece because when I was finished modeling it... (You can see that
here) I was so happy.. except there was one problem, although he was capable of standing on his own, he would fall over at a sudden shake or simply after a while... I was really nervous about baking him in the oven because I was afraid he would topple over inside. =( Guess what happened? I put him in... and after about two minutes I heard a thump inside of the oven.
I opened it up and there he was, laying on his stomach... I was so upset, I freaked out, because I had spent HOURS working on all the details. All his frills, claws, button, ears, and facial features fell off. I couldn't reattach them because they hardened completely and the main body was getting close to hardening. So I spent four hours remodeling stuff that broke in there. Thanks to
Julie and
Osa for helping me pull through after I was so close to giving up on him.
Then when I was finished RE-doing a lot of the stuff, I finally got him baked... Painting took a long time because I had to mix all the colors. The biggest problem was his main fur/cloth color because I'd always make it too yellow or too orange. Aha, I told
Zen that I was just gonna change the colors on Photoshop when I took the pictures, but she called me a cheater .. >:b I can't handle that..so I fixed it.
Anyways, so it's done. YAY. I threw in the picture with Dante as a joke, and also as a way for you guys to see their sizes compared to a quarter because I failed to show a proper size comparison on Dante's submission.
TOTAL TIME TAKEN: ~30 hours X_X *dies*
EDIT: as big as this description already is I forgot to mention that I snagged the preview picture from http://cormacb.deviantart.com/art/Kon-Bleach-Wallpaper-29741852
EDIT#2: Geez, I didn't expect to have this on frontpage, thanks guys! :) Makes it feel as if all the effort was really worth it in the end. ^^ Also, yes this is TECHNICALLY the old Kon design, I wanted to add the blue cross to the back of his head, but I don't have a blue acrylic paint yet, but as soon as I get it I'll add it on. :-)
