Legend

Long ago, before the existence of demons or moon spirits, a single race existed. The darkness spirits they were called, and they lived in peace. Following the words of the goddess they resided quietly, taking no part in the wars and conflicts of other races.

One day a human became lost in their lands, a creature who had suffered great loss and had no direction to his life.

Out of pity a young spirit took him in, ignoring the warnings of his elders to nurse the human back to health. Such a thing was not considered right, for the spirit himself was the only surviving prince, the last of the royal blood.

With all the care he could muster he sought to understand the conflicted creature and did what he could to ease his sufferings. But once the human was well, he could not let him go; he had fallen in love with the creature.

It is said they were spirit mates, twin souls separated at birth and destined to search for each other for all time. Two incomplete souls that had found their other halves; a rare thing.

But they were not satisfied, for one was a human, and the other a spirit. The human was cursed to age and die while the spirit would still be young, left alone in the world once more.

But then, the spirit turned his back on the goddess, asking the human to create something that would turn him human too. The human was a powerful mage, one of the strongest to have ever lived, though in his remorse he had all but cast aside his strength, desiring to have little else to do with his past. This would be a final act, the last use of magic he would make.

All warned the prince, told him it would not end well, for such a thing was an abomination, a means to alter nature. But the prince did not listen, instead aided the human.

A mirror was made, its purpose to reflect the spirit into a lesser form. But it went horribly wrong, instead twisting the prince’s nature. He became corrupt, losing his mind to the taint that now filled him, drowning in it.

In his insanity he slew the human, committing a crime of the ultimate offence. In remorse he cast aside the remains of his heart and mind, losing himself in the corruption to escape his pain. And so the first demon was born, his existence not the product of malice, but of the blindness of love. He would serve as a warning to all those who sought to change nature.

As time passed—leaving their tale forgotten by most—a small artefact lingered. A pendant, created together to show their love for one another.

It is said that someday they will return to right the wrongs they committed, and the pendant will once again be passed from the Beloved One to the Moon Prince. That perhaps one day, they will find peace and forgiveness. Only time will tell.

If you have the song "Hace Mucho Mucho Tiempo" (Long, Long Time Ago) from Pan's Labyrinth please listen to it while you read.

Basicly, this is an old legend that will come into play in my novel (or more likely the sequel I have planned, it will be a trilogy). Like I said in the last thing I posted, I'm playing with reincarnation. I'm sure anyone familiar with my story and characters will have a good idea who is who xD

My spirit mate theory btw is that at the birth of a soul, sometimes the soul splits into two, twin souls they're called. These souls are essentially soul mates, two incomplete souls that are destined to find each other. Only when they're together can they reach their full potential, or be truly happy. Otherwise they'll forever feel incomplete. It is rare for the souls to find each other; spirit mates are sometimes born genders their mate is not attracted to, sometimes one dies before they can meet, or sometimes they never meet at all.

Awsome. ^^ I know I've listened to you talk about it a lot, but it's really neat when you have it down like this. ^^
