Portals to Dreams
“Hi I am Heather Burnett reporting to you live from HBSN.” I said with a bright and cheery tone. I projected and read the teleprompter pronouncing it clearly. “Still today we have not found pig 2…” I snickered beneath my breath. (Long story…) “Also for the cheerleader tryouts, Rachael is team captain and for Co Capta-” Bring. My cell phone wrung. A glance at the clock, right on time. “One sec.” I rummaged through my purse and pulled out my new razor. “Hello? Yes I am on air…Uh-huh…No…Seriously! You did not! … Yeah of course I will!” I clicked it shut and turned to see everyone glaring at me in A.) Anticipation or B.) Frustration. “Braking news everyone! The sprinklers are going off in a few moments because a few boys have just simultaneously set off fireworks in all of the boys bathrooms…” I said it in excitement; it was going to be the 2nd best senior prank of the year! (Just after the pigs…) Everyone stared at me like I was crazy.
“Wait for it…wait for it…” beep, beep, beep, beep. The fire alarms blazed at us then, fzzz, the sprinklers came on; shouts and screams began to erupt throughout the hallways. Luckily all of us in the news room knew about all of this and had the camera gear covered with plastic ponchos.
“And there you have it folks! I’m Heather Burnett reporting to you live from HBSN!”
Things like this don’t happen at my school; but lately I had really shaken things up. When my mom first told me “You’re going to Burnett Institute no matter what.” I had thought it can’t be too bad; but boy was I so wrong! The first day I was late for class and got an after school detention. Not fun. The second day my locker got jammed so I didn’t have a pencil so I was rewarded with a lunch detention. (Let me tell, you detention lunches SUCK!) The third day I was ‘harassed’ by a boy (though cute I may add) and when I reported it, the headmaster glared at me and says, “Boys here don’t pull things like that Ms. Burnett…Do not falsely accuse innocent students in my school because your off to a bad start…” (Ms. Burnett, Burnett institute…Yup. My Great grandfather built this damn place and so far all of his descendants [by blood] have attended. That’s why I couldn’t go any ware else for my sophomore through senior years.) Then I got another after school and had to call my mother. (She imploded over the phone if you’re wondering…)
So the next week I did everything ATTS (According To the Schedule, it’s our school motto. We scream “Burnett Institute! ATTS!” at football and basket ball games.) After a few more weeks the headmaster chose me to be the new newscaster because I had H.B. for my initials. (The last girl was Hailey Brooke and she had moved away.) Soon after I became a little more popular and that’s when I met Emily. Emily is my BFF (Best Friend Forever.) She is the one who also holds the camera during HBNN. I also made friends with several other people. Ex: Hunter, Chris, Micheal, Alyce, Anne, Britney, and many others.
After I was ‘perfect’ for several weeks I got sick of it and had started to loose it. I put 2 pigs in our school, one labeled 1 and the other labeled 3. They spent 2 weeks looking for pig 2 but they never found it because it didn’t even exist. Then we did the fireworks in the boy’s bathrooms. Now today I stood outside soaking wet congratulating my entire group of guy friends on there work.
“That was…actually there isn’t even a word to describe how awesome that was!” Chris said. He was ecstatic and his face seemed to glow. His long legs bent and sprung his tall slender body upward as he jumped with anxiety. Micheal stood with a smile. He was proud of himself for accomplishing such a prank. When we had done the pigs he had painted the numbers but wasn’t sure about the whole thing.
“Why does this make you so happy?! We shouldn’t have done something like that! We could get in real trouble!” He faked worrying so well it scared me. We all fell silent as his eyes looked as if he was honestly scared. Then we all fell over laughing. I had to hold my sides to keep from loosing my breath.
“Ok we need to do this more often! That was the best EVER!” Emily’s eyes where there usual blue but instead of being like ice they looked like water, darker and warmer.
“Really? What about missing 2 days of school because they were looking for the 2nd pig?” I asked. She stopped laughing and thought about it.
“I dunno…I’d say there about even cause we still miss a day of school but we are all together and,” She wrung out her shoulder length blonde hair. “We are all soaked!” She screamed it with excitement and jumped once.
“Soaking wet…Yes.” The cold voice made me stiffen and the hairs on the back of my neck rise. “Ms. Burnett, come see me in my office…” He hissed in my ear as he kept walking by. We waited for a few moments for him to disappear into the crowd.
“That guy gives me the shivers…” Chris said. Then he chattered his teeth and pretended to be cold. We all started laughing again then I waved and made my way away from my group to the front of the school. Crap I hate the headmaster…I thought then I noticed a small tent that said ‘Headmasters office’ I laughed. That’s right we can’t go in until the water people clear us to. I Sat in the small folded chair and he spun around in his little office desk chair. He was tall and had thick brown hair, his eyes where an emerald green with tints of evil hidden behind them.
