Names - Deja Vu
The young man packed his bag and left the classroom. Another class come and gone, and now it was time for the next one. He walked down the hallway a distance and began to climb the stairs. He felt he had climbed these before, although he'd never visited the school. He shrugged it off and reached the landing that turned to the second floor.
As he took a step on the stair, a girl was just taking a step on the landing.
They collided head on and fell on the hard landing. She braced herself with her hands, bending over him, while he fell on his back.
"Oowww..." After the girl shook the shock from her head, she looked at who she ran into. "Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't see you! Are you alright?"
He scooted backwards a bit before attempting to get up. He rubbed the bump on the back of his head. It wasn't a very soft floor. "Nah, I'm good." He smiled and gave a peace sign. "I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't paying good enough attention."
"Oh, no, no!" The girl waved her hand in front of her. "I was taking the steps too fast, and didn't see where I was going. I'm sorry."
The boy laughed a bit. "Then I guess we're both dimwits."
The girl stared for a bit, then chuckled herself. "Yeah, I guess we are."
They both got up, and lifted their respective book bags. The girl took a step towards the stairs, then turned around as she went down and waved. "Bye."
He waved back. "Bye."
As she went out of view, he sighed. "Well, there goes another girl I could of gotten to know." He then shrugged and continued on, waving his hand in the air in thought. "More fish in the sea or something. Keep saying that, keep proving it right, then keep moving on. I'm such a loser."
As he reached the top, he stopped for a second, then turned back towards the stairs. His face reflected a sense of perplextion, based on old memories. "Did I just get a sense of deja vu?"
Later, at a coffee shop, a long haired young man wearing glasses seemed interested, and said, "Was she hot?"
The boy looked at his friend, Jay, with an annoyed expression, and a fork in his mouth. He took it out and said, "I guess. I didn't really look at her body. She was more cute than hot though."
Jay formed a bit of a smile on his face, then pushed his glasses further up his nose. "But she was good looking."
The boy sighed angrily and put his fork down on the table. "Does it really matter? It's not like I'll ever see her again. I keep meeting girls, getting to know them, getting to like them, then suddenly the class is over, and they dissappear from my life."
"Oi." A hand suddenly reached across the table, grabbed the boy by the neck, and pulled him across. Jay was looking down, then slowly raised his head until his eyes, a glint of anger in them, met the boy's.
A cold tone emphasized Jay's message. "You know, your speech annoys me... BOY!" The boy recoiled a bit as Jay continued. "I will not stand by while you belittle yourself like this. YOU! WOMAN!" Jay pointed towards a young female passing by with his free hand, then grasped the boy's head in both hands and faced it towards her. "I beseech thee, fair maiden. Is this the face of an ultra pimp? A young male in the springs of youth, waiting for a beautiful woman, or womans, to tame him? A young woman to teach him the virtues and essences of the great element called love?"
The girl looked at both with an astonished expression, then slowly walked away. Jay let go of the boy and sat back down, folding his arms. "Maybe you're a bad example of such a person."
The boy looked at him with a shocked expression, his eyes and mouth opened wide. He didn't know what to think of what just happened, but the only word he could think of was traumatic.
Jay then suddenly pointed towards the ceiling. "Idea."
The boy closed his mouth, although his eyes remained wide.
Jay folded his arms and looked at his new friend, whom he met a month ago when the boy moved in. "I have asked a girl on a date."
"I'm very happy for you." Either the boy was being overdramatic, or he had never been pulled across a table and had his head grasped before, for his expression had not change. Both possible, but probably the latter.
"As you should, for the angel has stated conditions. The condition is that I bring a friend along, for she will also be bringing her own friend as well."
The boy's faced turned to normal with a raised eyebrow. "A double date?"
Jay let out a small laugh. "Precisely, and you shall be my wingman."
The boy had a look of regret on his face. "I don't think I want to be your wingman."
"You will be free around lunchtime tomorrow. Am I correct that this statement is true?"
The boy sighed in defeat. "Fine. I don't have any homework, and no job yet. You make sure to pick me up."
A sly grin formed on Jay's face, and he folded his hands in contemplation. He would make sure his friend didn't regret it.
The boy looked at Jay again. "Womans?"
Jay shrugged. "What? What's wrong with a harem? I plan to have one someday. Or at least hope to."
"Was he hot?" said a girl to her friend in the bird enclosure on top of the building.
"What?" The girl was surprised how easily her friend, Tamira, blurted that out. "I didn't really look. I mean, he was kinda cute and all, but..."
Tamira laughed a bit before continuing. "Oh come on, you were on top of him. You had to of gotten a good look."
The girl turned to her friend, embarrassed. "Mira!"
"Oh ho ho ho. I'm just teasing you a bit." The girl giggled a bit before looking around the enclosure. Birds of most shapes, sizes and colors dotted the perches, with the top covered and the sides caged. There was even a few falcons and hawks. "I've been wondering. Why did you get interested in birds?" Tamira looked around a bit more before looking at her friend. "Aren't you studying to be a history teacher?"
The girl, with a falconer's glove on, walked over to a red-tailed hawk whose wing was broken, and put her arm next to it. The hawk looked at the gloved hand, then stepped onto it. She stroked the feathers a bit before the hawk started to prune itself.
"I like birds. They're pretty." The girl held her arm back to the perch for the hawk to jump back on, then took off the falconer's glove and continued to watch the hawk. "I like birds because they seem so free in the sky. No earthly bonds. A hawk in flight is also a wonderful sight. Soaring, kiting the wind as they fly along..." The girl sighed a bit before continuing on. "I wish I was a bird."
Tamira smiled a bit before replying. "That's unique. I don't know of many people that dream like that. Of course, I guess not a lot of people have those types of dreams."
The girl started to walk around the enclosure. "I had a dream one time. I was a normal country girl, living in a far off village. One day, I was swept into a great adventure, and became the princess and savior of a whole country. There were swordfights, sorcerers, dragons... even zombies." She shook her head at the last one, a look of laughter on her face. "How those got there, I have no idea."
Tamira became interested in this. She didn't know girls her age still dreamed fairy tales. "Was there a prince in this dream by chance?"
The girl stopped walking and looked at the floor in a depressed state. "No. No prince. Just like in real life."
Tamira looked at her friend. For years, it seemed the girl had not really cared for being in any kind of relationship. It started out as a simple waiting for that special someone from the past, but the waiting was making her depressed. It made her look like a bird without wings. Tamira thought the analogy seemed fitting now.
Tamira then remembered something from earlier that day, and decided to ask the girl about it.
"A guy I know asked me out to lunch tomorrow. I told him I'd go only if I was allowed to bring a friend along." Tamira stood up and put her hand on the girl's shoulder. "You should come."
The girl looked at the floor sorrowfully. "I guess... I'm not doing anything tomorrow."
Tamira patted the girl on the head, still with a gentle smile on her face. "Harsh as it may seem, I would say forget the past. Look to the future. Maybe what college is about I guess." Tamira then walked over to the door and looked back. "I'll call you with the details. See you later."
She opened the door and left, leaving the girl brooding amongst her birds.
