Sana's Birthday Present '07
Checkers squinted though the smoke. It was just another typical Thursday night at Bailey's Bar, and boredom was beginning to creep in. Ida had run out, seeking a one-night playmate. So there he was, his white, shiny, hairless head, standing out among the sea of darkness and smoke. He coughed again. Checkers had never touched a cigarette in his life, and wasn't about to do so just because a few blue-rinse bogans decided they couldn't live without their Winfield Blues for an extra five minutes. He was about to storm over to the nearest long-scraggly haired freak to insert the offending drug into an orifice, but then he saw her. She sat there, with her straggly black hair threatening to over her eyes. Even in this light, he could see there was something special about this chick. Checkers liked what he saw a lot. Even as she sat there sipping her water, there was an air of authority around her.
He flaunted, and sat across from her, drink in hand and pretending to slick back his nonexistent hair. Felix kept her face neutral as the assassin crept closer towards her with an outstretched hand. She knew who this was. It was just a matter of acting cool for the next few hours. As long as he didn't want to push her too far, he'd get to keep his teeth.
"Hey. You can call me Venom, Babe," he purred at her, giving Felix his fighting name. She just gave him a bored look and turned to her fingernails. Checkers accepted her challenge. He was gonna win her over, even if it took a drugged drink to achieve it.
"Okay Venom Babe. What are YOU doing here?" She said in a cool, calm voice." Checkers rolled his eyes and pushed closer to her, while straightening out his clothes. She'd seen his type before, and she knew exactly how to deal with him. "Okay. How about you get me a drink, anything that you like. I'll be sittin' here waiting." She smiled sweetly at him, checking something in her handbag. Checkers obeyed, picking out a large jug of beer and plonking it down on the table along with two glasses. As soon as he turned away, she felt in her bag to make sure her protection After all, this was gonna be a long night and she needed her protection.
"Here ya go, matey!" Checkers purred, while Felix died a little inside. If it wasn't for the fact that what was about to happen would save a lot of people, she'd run away from the table screaming. There was just something that she felt about Checkers, a bad vibe that wasn't based on what she had seen in his file. Maybe he had a subliminal scent that just got up her back. He looked back at her with a smile. It did little to reassure her. It reminded her of a shark, one that was ready to eat something. Felix sure wasn't gonna be Checkers meat that was sure.
"So, what's a nice girl like you doin' in a place like this?" Checkers grinned. Well it was true. The bar was one of those sleazy places where one went for easy and/or cheap sex and illegal gambling. He had to shout now, as someone had turned up the TV and he couldn't make himself heard over the cheers and jeers over a boxing match. Someone had their head punched in, and there was a lot of blood and guts. Checkers yanked his eyes away from the screen long enough to get back to staring at Felix. Checkers' t-shirt was moving upwards, revealing the barbed wire tattoos that were around his large biceps. Felix was not amused. It was almost like someone had typed in every single bad stereotype into a computer and Checkers burst out. It wouldn't be long before Checkers started kissing his muscles.
The night wore on. Felix was secretly adding her drinks back to Checkers' glass. He didn't notice that he was getting drunk twice as quick as he usually does. His head was starting to feel heavy, but there was no way that he'd admit that to anyone. "So, I've never seen you in here before. Whash you name?" Checkers slurred, while trying to gaze down her dress. Only another few hours, she thought to herself, as she adjusted her clothes slightly. He pulled back; slightly annoyed that he wasn't given a treat.
Suddenly, Ida burst in through the front door. Checkers was shocked. He thought she was out finding someone to do her praying mantis impressions on. But it didn't matter. She wasn't his master, and he would be more than happy to totally ignore her. After all, he was making progress with this mysterious chick who hadn't even given her name yet.
"I thought I told you to look after Morty," Checkers growled. Forgetting where he was for a moment, he moved menacingly towards Ida, who just cacked. "Who's looking after him? There are all sorts of low-lifes out there who want nothing better than to kidnap OUR little prize find." He muttered, mostly to himself.
"Checky, maybe you should stop yellin' out me in front of the chick. Hey!" Ida quickly turned her attention to Felix. Ida sauntered over to her and put her head in Felix's face, not caring if Felix hated the smell of tobacco. "So, what are you doing tonight, Hun?" She purred near Felix. Felix turned away. It was bad enough that there was one freak after her; it was when they thought she swung that way. Just a few more hours, she told herself.
"I don't think she's your type." Checkers chuckled. He knew that Ida didn't let a little thing like gender decide with the people that she slept with. In fact, Ida had that little look in her eyes that she always got when she was on the hunt, either with a client or with dating. The truth was, Ida's type was anyone who was either too stupid or too suicidal to see what dating her would do. Ida snorted at him.
"Whatever. Just because you can't get any, doesn't mean I can't. Watch and learn from the Mistress," Ida slurred. She put her hand around Felix, who grimaced a little inside. Ida's smells were seriously horrible, she smelt like a portable pub. That was the least of Felix's problems. How was she gonna shake off the pair of them when they both watched over her like a hawk? She couldn't even slip off into the Ladies, as Ida was watching her, licking her lips. It seems that she would have to move, and move quickly.
"What did you say your name was again, Sweetpea?" Felix purred. Her palms were sweating. If she didn't pull this off, there would be big problems, and she wasn't sure if anyone would be able to move quick enough to save her from the clutches of these two.
Without any warning, a small kid banged through the door. His face was cute yet mean, and obscured by a hooded jacket. He was looking for someone and as soon as he saw Ida, he went over.
"Why did you leave me alone in the car? You said you were only gonna be a few more minutes while you were playin' the pokies!" Morty whined, while clinging to Ida's leg. Morty knew it was suicide, but she would never kill him while in a public place. Besides, a distraction might be the best for everyone. He loved Ida too much to see anything nasty happen to her.
"Quiet. Do I even know you?" Ida growled before returning to looking after Felix. "Don't worry about that strange little child. I'm... Michelle." Ida said, sweating slightly. She should be used to giving fake names, but it appeared this time she couldn't. Felix lifted one eyebrow. She'd seen Ida's sheet and knew that she had so many aliases; her files had come in a folder.
"If you guys want me, there's a little something I want you to do first." Felix nodded, trying to keep the smirk off her face. Just keep your hands behind your back and whistle quietly." Ida and Checkers obeyed, while Morty ran out of the room. He did not want to see what was gonna happen. Felix licked her lips as she got the cuffs out and snapped them on.
Ida moved her head up to scowl at Felix, but changed her mind when she saw the gun and truncheon in her hand. Instantly she knew this wasn't good, but she found it hard to move Checkers along.
"I think I like this chick a lot," grinned Checkers, as she hauled him up on his feet. Felix stuck her badge and ID in front of the assassins, as their faces fell. Checkers tried to beat Ida up with his elbow, until Felix whacked his elbow. Checkers looked like he was gonna cry.
"Now... you're both under arrest!" Felix grinned. Yeah, she could get into a lot of trouble for catching these two, but it didn't matter. The number of murders that those two had done was quite a lot. She read them their rights, pushed them into a waiting car, and drove off towards the station, with a grin of satisfaction across her face.
