Run-in with the BLack Sheep Ch. 7
Chapter Seven
Rain held onto the box tightly, so she didn't drop it, while Cain glanced at her at the corner of his eye. I don't get it...How come she seems so...familiar? Where could I have seen her?
"Hold it! Stop, thief!" A man in a mask darted past Rain, smashing into her shoulder.
"Hey!" Rain shoved the box in Cain's hands and ran after the masked man.
"Rain! Careful, don't run!" Cain rushed after her, but then lost her in a crowd of people. Where could she have gone?
Meanwhile, Rain followed the man until she hit a dead end in an alley. "You'd better give back what you stole right now!"
The robber looked her over and spotted her choker, "That's a nice necklace. It might fetch me a pretty penny at the market."
Rain held onto her pendant as she backed away. He swiftly ran at her and slammed his head into her stomach, making the wound on her abdomen reopen and have her cough out a mouthful of blood. Her hands instantly flew to her abdomen to nurture the growing pain in her stomach.
Now's my chance! He grabbed onto the choker and ripped it from her neck.
"My pendant!" Rain slapped the man's wrist, making the choker hit the ground meters away.
Cain arrived too late as Rain was thrown to the ground, "Rain!" He carefully placed the box underneath a bush and pulled out his gun. "Back away from the girl..."
Rain clawed at the ground as her eyes dimmed and her hair became darker and longer. The scar on her face disappeared, as she became something inhuman...
The Dark Angel...
"Blood..." Cain and the robber turned to see Rain rise and to their horror, her eyes became black, "The sight of blood...the smell...the taste!" Rain ran after the man, a sword somehow in her hand as she slashed her way through him.
Cain watched in horror as she used her armed hand to slash at him while using her other hand to puncture his chest. "Argh! Stop it!"
"You tried to kill my vessel! Now you'll pay with your life!"
"Rain stop this, now!" Cain grabbed onto her wrists before she made the finishing blow.
The robber inched away as The Dark Angel struggled against Cain's grip, "Let me go!" she freed her unarmed hand and slashed at one of his arms with her nails.
Cain winced in pain as blood ran down his forearm, soaking the sleeve and tightening his grip on her armed wrist until he heard a slight cracking.
The Dark Angel screamed in pain, "OW! Let go! You're gonna break my wrist!" She released the sword from her hand and dropped to her knees, making Cain let go and retrieve the choker, holding it in front of her face.
"Put this around her neck ..." Cain ordered, his gaze never leaving her as she timidly took the pendant from his hand.
The Dark Angle felt pure terror as she began to fasten the choker, "I'm Kuroi...Sorry to cause any trouble, Earl of Poison..."
Cain stayed silent as Kuroi closed her dark eyes, "May we meet again, Rain seems quite fond of you."
The scar reappeared on her face as her hair shortened and her eyes became their normal color. Rain fainted as her energy quickly dissipated.
"Whoa!" Cain caught her before her head hit the ground. He smiled slightly. Such stress to put under a young woman...and yet...she seems experienced with pain and disaster...
Rain started to stir as Cain held her close, "Hm? ...What just happened...? How did I...?" she looked at Cain's injured arm, then looked at her bloodstained hands, "What have I done...?" Tears came to her eyes as she felt her heart sink with anguish.
Cain sighed somberly as he saw Rain cry, her breathing become short gasps of air as she held her arms close to her chest, making her military outfit becoming red with her blood. Cain could not take much of it, "Rain, it's only a scratch, nothing wrong with that..."
"But...!"
"Just calm down...there's nothing else to worry about..." Except... Cain looked up to see the robber unconscious. Knowing he'll recover quickly, he leaned Rain against the wall and removed her backpack as he walked over to the shrubbery and placed the box containing the dress in the bag.
He swung the bag over his shoulders and returned to the young girl, opening her jacket to reveal a long slash across the hollow of her chest.
"Lord..." he closed the fold of her jacket and picked her up.
Rain's mind was blank as he carried her back to the mansion, her voice almost non-existent as she closed her eyes to rest.
When Cain opened the door to the mansion, he saw his sister, "Mary Weather! Go get Riff, Rain's hurt."
Mary Weather nodded as she ran off the get the silver-haired man. "Riff! Come quick, come quick!" her voice echoing in the halls.
Cain set the brunette onto the couch, making sure not to stir her from her slumber.
Riff came into the room and looked on it horror. "Good Lord, what in the world happened to her...?"
"Let's just say we ran into a bit of trouble." Cain informed as he glanced at the young girl-her headband strangely intact. He went to take the large, silver ribbon out of her hair when a pale hand tightly gripped his wrist, "?"
"Don't...touch...my headband...understand...?" The young woman hissed as she glared at the Young Earl.
Cain retracted his hand as he watched Riff bandage the girl up. After an hour of bandaging and cleaning wounds, Cain noticed something unusual about Rain-her entire body was covered in scars. Cain looked at Riff as he was called to attention.
"She should be good to go this time. Make sure she doesn't do anything strenuous this time, okay Lord Cain?"
Cain nodded.
"Now we have to leave her so she can rest." Riff said as he exited the room.
Cain stayed by Rain as she fell fast asleep on the small couch, a thin, tan blanket covering her slender frame. "Rain..."
He felt as though he knew her somewhere, but he couldn't recall where. Why can't I remember? Maybe... He went to gently stroke a stray lock of hair away from her face when he saw an image of her in his mind, only she looked younger, roughly ten. He quickly drew his hand back as he saw the image. "R-rain..." What in the world was that? Was she really around when I was a child? I must ask her that when she awakens.
