If you don't get this, then you haven't played... or even heard of... the game Crackdown.
It's a free roaming game where when you do stuff it raises your stats... For example... Blow people up, your explosive stat raises. Run people over, your driving stat raises. Jump around on buildings and your agility raises.
It was a good game, but way too short. Only thing that's still making me keep it is 'cos the fun online multiplayer.
